How do you get your toddler to fall asleep?

Question

Our toddler can only fall asleep if one of us lays next to her. She currently has a king mattress on the floor because she was done with the crib a few months ago. We created a bad habit!
If yours is falling asleep on their own in a big kid bed, how did you teach them? Thanks!

We have just kept the same bedtime routine since he was a few months old. Brush teeth, change diaper, read a book, listen to the same two songs and gets put in bed. If he gets out we just put him back in. He got up a lot the first week but now he will talk to himself for a few minutes and fall asleep. Its exhausting for a few days but ultimately pays off in the end.

My daughter has tons of energy so I let her play with toys and run around until about 10pm then lay her in bed and she’s so exhausted she just falls asleep instantly. Wakes up around 10 the next day also maybe not a good habit to sleep in so late but it works for us 😐

We haven't moved her to a big girl bed yet. Not going to unless she really tries to climb out (has put a foot on the rail once) until around Thanksgiving or Christmas with a new sibling coming in March. 
We sleep trained around 7 months with a modified Ferber method where you go and check on them in their room. I'm not sure how that would work for a toddler though. Can relate some though, when she has a really hard time and wakes up around 2 (did twice early on in potty training while initially using cotton undies at night) I will climb in her crib with her. She knows this is an option if I do it too much, but I just tell her "no, not right now. Cuddle your _____ and I'll come back and check on you". This will work 3/4 times and she will fall asleep and I will watch her on the video monitor.
When she does have issues initially going to sleep we let her cuddle us in the living room to watch a 20 minute show with her binky (gonna get rid of soon) and try to lay her down again. 
I think having a solid bed time routine could help if you don't have one already. We also give a warning of when its time to go to bed around 8 pm.
     Brush teeth, go potty, put on bed time undies (pull ups), lotion, pjs, pray, kiss good night and lay her down with her binky, blanket and a toy. 
We have a sound machine, fan, and cool mist humidifier in her room that run all night too. The sound machine and humidifier have a green light that can still be seen even though I've covered them with tape. I'm not sure if having that small light from those and our smoke detector makes a difference or not.

We give him his cup and blanket play him religious (quran) recitation. I sit next to him. I have an alarm on my phone that plays my pandora station of John Coltrane there bed time is 9pm. So once they hear the music they know it's time to go to sleep.

We rock and sing him to sleep in his rocking chair and then transfer to the crib and then half way thru thr jight he’s up screaming mamma and I carry him to our bed😟I’m jsut too tired to fix it but we really need to! New baby coming soon 🙃
How did u guys u guys know it was time to get out of the crib ? I’m so nervous he’s gonna walk around his room at night half asleep and hurt himself

We did sleep training when our daughter was five months old. Instead of cry it out, I rocked her to sleep and then put her in her crib. When she woke up an hour later and cried, I did it again. And again, and again. After a couple (exhausting) nights of this, she stopped doing her scared cry when she woke up and just fussed like she was being willful. At that point, I started giving her a few minutes to calm down when she woke up before going in to rock her to sleep. Eventually she got used to the crib and started settling back to sleep herself. 
It took about two weeks total, but it has been SO worth it. She loves her bed now and if she gets tired before her typical bedtime or nap time, she will ask for “night-night.” 
I’m not sure exactly how one would sleep train a toddler, but I’m sure there is information out there! Sleep training doesn’t have to be harsh. You can modify the techniques to suit your child’s needs. The important thing is consistency.

My son is trained to sleep in his crib. We put him in there when his bedtime hits with his teddy bear and bottle. He’s used to it now so he doesn’t fuss anymore
