Okay, so my friend has a baby and said to me she would only bring her daughter round in the outside of my property due to me smoking in the house which i only smoke in one room only and is well ventilated with windows open and also was told to not hold baby within the first hour of smoking, ladies i totally get about smoking near a baby of which i would never do and yeah respect her wishes but when my neice was born 3years ago, my friend smoked where i smoked and obviously handled her when she was a tiny baby i just think it's a little bit double standard, what you think girls? TIA

I think its her baby and its her decision. Without sounding offensive but your niece wasn’t her full concern then but this is her baby and she probably wants to ensure that there wont be any second hand smoke which may affect baby

I think what smokers don't realize is that to non smokers it smells TERRIBLE. Your house clothes breath everything. She doesn't want her sensitive little baby exposed to that and it's understandable. And smoking in one room of the house and having a window open does not keep it from venting into other rooms..the smell and the second hand smoke/chemicals.

I think it’s hard to understand if it’s not your child. We all say we’re not going to do things that we end up doing later as parents and just later in life...and do things that we later say we would never do again. It may seem like a double standard, but it seems more like someone just changing their mind when they have their own child.

It’s different cuz it’s her baby and now she has a different opinion about it. Life events like having a baby can change certain believes. She probably didn’t care much, maybe didn’t even think about it much before. But now she feels responsible for her child. Don’t take it personal.

I plan to be the same way with my future children. They are calling it third hand smoking. Which is basically where it clings to things around you, clothes, drapes, walls, etc. Google it and it will show you. But my personal feelings on it is that it's my baby. I can choose to feel that way and keep my baby away from things I deem as harmful. And maybe she learned a lesson from doing it previously which is why shes the way she is now.

I think its her kid, she can not come around at all honestly. And smoking in the house is nasty, my opinion.

I think it's silly. Smoking is demonized, but nobody even thinks about all the chemicals they do put around their children.

I bet your friend uses soap that kills fish and other aquatic life. 
I bet she has furniture and walls leeching VOCs and stuff and flame retardants. 
Like sure, we don't want our children around ANY of that stuff, ideally, I just think it's weird how most people would single out smoking, and not even consider the other stuff.

It’s her choice. But yes, it is hypocritical since she was doing the same thing years ago.
