Pediatrician???

Question

When should I start looking for pediatrician? I'm only 18 weeks so I've got a lot of time but I was wondering if you just find one or...your doctor recommends one...or you automatically already have one? Lol I have zero idea how it works. I'm a first time mom!...obviously lol.

I asked my OB who she recommended and then set up an appt in my 3rd trimester to meet her and see what she was like. We loved her and still do!!

Ask about their after hours care. Also about which hospital the affiliate themselves with. (Makes is so easy if you do an ER visit and the Dr. Gets the records ASAP). How many Dr. Are in the office. The more doctors they have usually the easier it is to make appointments.

I'm taking baby girl to my old pediatrician. I just think it's cool to continue on with their l care after my LO since I know them so well, and they are great.

I asked other parents I knew and my ob. You can start looking whenever you want!

I asked on the local classified pages where people took their kids. I had the pediatrician set up by around 33 weeks

I agree with asking other parents about their experiences. Thats how I knew which one I wanted with my kids. My mom knew the pediatricians in town too because she worked in OB. For delivery they will typically just send in the pediatrician that is on call. I actaully filled out a paper to refuse care from one particular pediatrician. She was notorious for screwing up circumsions. So i didn't want her anywhere near my kid, even for delivery. They ended up calling in the pediatrician that I had chosen.
