What type of contraception

Question

So I was wondering how effective is the injection and what are the pros and cons?!
What's your experience with it and would you advise it for a teenager? 
Sorry last question, is it okay to have it without telling your parents what's your opinions?

With the depo your period may and probably will be random/unpredicable for up to the first year and a half while on it. You may have a normal period, you may have a period for 3wks, you may spot for a month or any combination or all. BUT eventually, most people stop bleeding altogether after that year. Everyone is different and will react differently to depo. You cannot predict that how someone reacted to depo that, that will happen to you. I was on it 3yrs and did not gain weight. Other have. I had more mood swings than I wanted, others didn't. Etc

I was on the injection for a year and it was the worst decision I ever made.

It's an easy option, you get the injection and then you're protected from getting pregnant for 3 months until you have to go back for the next one. For me, that sounded perfect as I didn't trust myself to remember to take the pill, a coil sounded scary and I'd heard horror stories about the implant from friends who had got one.

The problem was, the nurse neglected to tell me the side affects of getting the injection. After a month I started getting mood swings and I gained weight rapidly. I was in a relationship so I wasn't too concerned about all of this because we'd been together a long time and things like putting on weight wasn't going to affect our relationship as we'd been together a long time.

Fast forward to June 2014, I'd gone from a size 12 to a size 20 (UK sizes). I decided to come off it as my family were getting worried!
 
Photo on the left is from June last year and the photo on the right is 12 months after I came off the injection. I didn't go to the gym or stop eating what I usually ate, the weight just fell off me!

The injection fools the body into thinking its pregnant, and it's been known to have a lot of complications. Research into some other contraception if you ask me!
