Herpes?

Question

I get cold sores a lot does that mean I have herpes? Are cold sores even that bad? Can I get rid of them at all? Will they spread and become worse?? I know a lot of people have cold sores so I’m assuming it’s basically normal. What do you think?

It is oral herpes. It is herpes simplex virus 1, which is different from genital herpes. That is caused a separate viral strain - herpes simplex virus 2.

It is herpes but it's not a huge deal. Just don't share any drinks, kiss anyone, or perform oral sex until it's 100% gone to avoid spreading it. And although this probably won't come up, absolutely do NOT kiss a baby! Babies can die from cold sores. Most people get cold sores at some point in their lives, so this is really nothing to be worried about or ashamed of.

I think a lot of people don't realize that "herpes" is actually a class of viruses, and there are many herpes viruses that are not the genital infection that comes to mind. Cold sores are from a separate herpes virus. Chicken pox is also caused by a herpes virus.
Herpes viruses as a group are characterized by life-long infection that can lay dormant for years but will always be with you (like how you can go for years without a cold sore, or have chicken pox as a child that spontaneously triggers shingles as an adult). Anyway.. you're fine.

Are you sure it’s a cold sore and not a canker sore? It may be a canker sore. But if it is definitely a cold sore, then yes cold sores are herpes. But it’s not a huge deal... literally most people have oral herpes (I think it’s like 2/3 of the population or something?) so don’t sweat it. I had one cold sore ever (it hurt like HELL) and the doctor told me “yep that’s herpes” and I had no idea how I possibly could’ve gotten it, but he told me it could even be from something like having shared a drink with someone like 10 years ago even, and it could have been dormant that long! Good news is, it’s been about a year and I haven’t had once since. I may never get one again. But technically, I do have herpes 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️
The one thing you should just be very careful of is to NOT have oral sex if you have a cold sore (honestly I’d probably even wait a week or so after it goes away!) because that could turn it into genital herpes which IS more serious!

It is orla I get them but not that much anymore. Lysine prevents me from having outbreaks and u wanna keep your immune system strong by eating healthy/ limiting sugar/ getting lots of zinc in your diet. I usually get them every six months I haven’t had one this year

Cold sore is a type of herpes but it different from general herpes.  My step mother gets them alot.

I also get cold sores, mostly when i am sick and a fever comes down. What i do is put on coffee grains.  I smash it into powder and add it to the cold sore and it burns but it heals in half the time. So in 4 days its gone instead of having to deal with it for 2 weeks. I havent gotten any in over 2 years since i started outting coffee on them. You should try it. It looks weird because tou have this brown spot on your lip but better then the ugly cold sore.
