I agree as weird as it feels, it’s best for us to use the real words. This is our chance to raise our generation of kids empowered to know the words and not be shamed. When talking in general about down there I do say privates sometimes, but I’ll also say things like “we don’t touch our labia except in the bathtub or wiping with tissue.” I think its great you and your kid are having that conversation with the right terminology already because it shows that you and he are 100% on the same page regarding what he is talking about! There’s no chance your kiddo will confuse you or another caregiver some day saying “Jenny kicked me in the hoo ha” or whatever. It’s a chance for you to start building that dialog about boundaries now. I’d just say “hon no one gets to kiss your penis, its private to you” etc etc.

It’s so much better to teach them proper names! He’d probably be joking and making comments about it no matter what he called it. It’s not any better if he says “mommy can’t kiss my wiener” right?? Knowing proper names makes them less likely to be victims of sexual abuse because they don’t think of their genitals as something cutesy and delicate to talk about.

My daughter has loudly said in public twice penis...it was a bit embarrassing, but I’m glad it was the correct word and not some cutesy fake name. Once she said it to point out that a dog had a penis, the second was to ask if ‘Bob’ had a penis.

My husband referred to it as her business as in stop touching your business. Now she says “This is my business” and grabs her crotch 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷‍♀️

We use proper names although she doesn't yet understand the difference between a male and female. If she sees a penis in a book she calls it a vagina too. I'm sure she'll get it eventually. I'm pregnant now and she knows that babies come out through the vagina. So now she'll randomly say she has a baby in her belly that will come out her vagina 😂 I'm just waiting for her to say that in public 🤦

After reading these comments, I’ll start to focus on using the real words. I haven’t really had any talk with my son... we tried potty training but stopped cuz he was all out refusing and they say to not force them. During potty training, I would say wee wee but now looking back and what the others have said, i believe it’s best to use proper names.

Little girls in my family call their vagina their peen-da 😂 it’s a Slovak word for vagina (or so my grandmother says) that my family has used for at least 5 generations to when my maternal side was still in the old country. I had to carry on the tradition 🐼
