Induced birth story

We went into the hospital to be induced on Tuesday at 8pm. We immediately got started on pitocin. I made it through the whole night on pitocin without feeling any of my contractions very strongly. My arm that had my IV got extremely swollen and the medicine wasn’t going through all the way. When they switched arms the contractions began to speed up and strengthen quickly. That morning my was only 1cm dilated. My water was broken at 7am and they noticed baby had pooped. There was meconium in the water. It was thin so they let me continue to labor. I got my epidural at that time as well, which helped with my contractions incredibly. I was able to labor without much pain. I was using the peanut ball when I began feeling the contractions strongly on my left side. I asked to move sides and suddenly I began violently throwing up. I labored for 20 hours before I got fully dilated. My blood pressure began to peek incredibly high. Baby’s heartbeat started dropping every contraction out of the blue. While I was throwing up I was told I had fully dilated and I could push. I pushed for an hour without any success. His head would come out almost and go back in. Finally my doctor said we couldn’t wait any longer and had to perform a c section. I was already so exhausted from pushing and laboring for so long. I was given the spinal tap and felt so sleepy. I was worried I’d fall asleep during my c section. When we got to the OR I began to get nauseous and began throwing up right away. The doctor didn’t wait. As I threw up she cut me open. My husband got up to get me a bag and saw me cut open completely. Then he saw them bring the baby out. My beautiful boy was limp and blue and not responding. He didn’t cry. I remember asking my husband why isn’t he crying and my husband not answering me. Then I blacked out. I didn’t wake up again until I was having x rays done because the doctors hadn’t had time to count their instruments before surgery and they had to make sure they didn’t leave anything inside me. In the x Ray it looked like a sponge was left inside. My family was told I’d have to be cut open again. Thankfully one of the nurses noticed a sponge in between my gown when they took it out and redid the x rays they came back clean. There was nothing inside me. The x rays were the worst part. They had me turning one way and then the other right after my c section it was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. Then the doctor and nurses had to press on my belly to make sure the blood was coming out fine. That was excruciating. Finally I was back in my room. I got to talk to my family for a bit but ended up passing out from so many meds I was on. I woke up the next morning feeling better. I was able to go down in a wheel chair and see my baby. He is being held in the nursery by himself. He swallowed meconium and had a true knot in his umbilical chord. That was the reason he couldn’t come out vaginally. He also developed an infection and will be on antibiotics for 2 days. I won’t be able to have him in the room with me during that time. My doctor said I developed preeclampsia during labor and when she cut me open there was so much fluid. I also lost so much blood they thought I’d need a transfusion. Today I am better. I’ve been able to walk down to the nursery to see my son and he is doing better too. It was the scariest day of my life. My husband said he thought he would lose me and the baby that day. But thankfully we are both going to recover from this.

In the end I got my beautiful son out of it. I will recover from the c section my body will heal and my baby will heal. We prayed so hard for our son and now he is thankfully here. God was with us every step of the way♥️ and everything was worth it for him. For my son I’d do it all over again.
