Depends on what the religion is preaching. 
Love, acceptance, inclusivity, care, forgiveness, etc.? Absolutely. 
Hate, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, vengeance, etc.? Definitely not.

Some people need that higher power to believe in. Helps them cope with things, or just live their life. I get that. Not my thing, but I get it.
But as far as religion and what they preach or practice is what I sometimes have an issue with

No I don’t think having a religion is good for people. 
But following the Bible and having Jesus in a persons life is a different matter and very beneficial to a person.

Religion in of itself isn't necessarily a problem - you believe in whatever deity you want and follow whatever text you want, as long as you're not preaching about harming others/actively harming others. Organized religion in the everyone must go to church, everyone must be converted, etc. (Or the equivalent there of) is what can be toxic and harmful. ISIS would be a handful of incidents rather than a world wide problem if they didn't have any way to be organized. The Westboro Baptist Church wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they weren't organized. By being organized hateful individuals can find other hateful individuals and then actually become a problem.

Not at all. Never has, never will. Religion has always been a hindrance on human kind. We’re our own worst enemies. We created myths to keep ourselves in line and then used those myths to justify destroying others because their myths were different. Religion is deprecating.
