A happy delivery story
I’ll keep it short, but I wanted to share my great birth experience. I was 36 weeks and 6 days when it all started. It was 10:00am on May 4th when I finally woke up and rolled (literally) out of bed to use the bathroom. But every time I stood up after I thought I was done peeing I kept pulling my pants up just to suddenly feel myself wetting my underwear! Embarrassing, I know! I did that about three times until I realized it might be my water breaking. So I called my husband from work and he asked if I could wait about a half hour so he could get his shift covered, and I hadn’t had any contractions yet so I was like “sure! Let me call my mom and we can all head up together!” I grabbed my go bag, and we headed to the hospital. It took longer than I wanted it to because there was some traffic and I was very eager to get this show on the road! I checked in at the hospital and they told me I was 3cm when they checked me. That was probably the most painful part of my day. They then formally admitted me since my water had broken and I needed to deliver within 24 hours to avoid infection. They asked me then if I had any contractions yet and I told them no. They then asked if I’d like to start my epidural and I was worried because I wasn’t sure if it would last for the pushing if I started now. But they assured me since they started me on pitocin I would be moving along soon and that they could do another cartridge of epidural if necessary. I still didn’t believe them so I asked two more nurses and the story checked out. The anesthesiologist came in and him and the nurse asked me about my day and what I do for work and by the time he got up I asked if he was almost ready and he laughed! “It’s already in! You’re good to go!” So I told him how amazing he was as he ran out the door to the next lucky lady. They had trouble tracking my contractions with the belly belt so they ended up putting one inside, which I didn’t feel at all. Same with the catheter. Dude, I have to pee every 10 min but having this in reallyyyyy set my mind at ease. It was one less thing to worry about. I waited a few more hours to ask when they think my contractions would start, and they said they’ve been happening since I got admitted! I was shocked, I haven’t felt a THING. I spent the next couple hours waiting for the axe to drop and to finally be in agony, but no, nothing! I had a pain free labor except for when they checked me. By the time I was 5cm, I just chilled in the room with mom and my hubby until I got bored and kept asking the nurse how long I should expect to be in labor based on how things are going. The nurse told me she expected me to be done by 2am, which, I was not happy about BECAUSE I WAS STARVING. So I guess my body really got stuff going so my fat a** could get some food because I went from 5-10cm in less than 2 hours. I started pushing at 10:10pm, threw up all my Gatorade into a barf bag because I was pushing so hard trying to be an overachiever (and to get some food before the cafeteria closed). And I gave birth to our daughter Arden Elena Galvan at 11:39pm May 4th. She was 7lbs 2oz and 21” and the most beautiful baby I’ve ever seen in my life. #maythefourthbewithyou
