Breast cancer in pregnancy
I’m 37 years old and currently 18 weeks pregnant after having miscarried twins last November. In this pregnancy we also conceived twins, but lost one in the first trimester. To top off what has been a difficult journey so far, I’ve recently noticed unusual breast changes, where both my breasts have started to look dimpled, like the skin of an orange. I saw my family doctor today, who said she suspected breast cancer and spoke with a cancer specialist whilst I was with her. She made an urgent referral and I have an appointment to be seen in the breast cancer clinic next Wednesday. I’ve obviously not got the diagnosis yet, but if I do have cancer it has the hallmarks of inflammatory breast cancer, which is very aggressive. My husband and I have been desperate to be parents for such a long time. At 18 weeks I’m not sure my body would hang on long enough for our child to be born healthy. The thought of never being a mum to our unborn child kills me, as does the thought of leaving my wonderful husband to struggle being a widowed and a single parent to our child. Has anyone been through a cancer diagnosis whilst pregnant? How was your journey? Thank you for reading.
