Sex while spotting

I recently started taking birth control and have been having irregular spotting. I mentioned to my bf that It’s common to spot for 2-3 months when first taking birth control and he seemed kind of worried about the sex being messy. I don’t spot all day or everyday, in your experience how has sex while spotting been? Does sex cause you to bleed making it messy? Or is it just a little bleeding to where it’s not noticeable? Or do you just spot afterwards? I know everyone is different but I’m just curious! Thanks:)
