Tablet for toddler?

Question

I have 3 year old this December, and she’s never had her own tablet or played on anyone else’s. Is it wrong of me to not have her play on one? I feel she is missing out on something since most of our friends kids have their kids on one. Any ideas?

I'm going to wait as long as possible to get mine a tablet. And even when we go it will be limited. I nanny for a family and their six year old can't handle being outside without TV and video games for even thirty minutes. If and when we get one it will only be given for a little bit each day and anytime they throw a fit about it they will lose it. I'm all for technology but not at such a young age.

My son got one for his second birthday last December from his nana and I was so pissed. I didn’t want my son on technology at all! So it sat in the box for months, then I got pregnant and had HORRIBLE all day sickness and would be in the bathroom for awhile and he would try to be in the bathroom with me and it was freaking him out. So, when I felt the sickness coming on I gave him his tablet and made sure it was on something educational. He gets it a few times a week, but I have a 45 min time limit on it for the whole day if he does get it.

Every once in a while I will let my son play educational games on my phone. His grandfather keeps asking if he can get him a cheapie tablet and I said no. I don’t mind some screen time, but I don’t want him to be one of those screen zombies.

I feel like a tablet is really a choice also depends on your lifestyle! We are huge road troopers always in the car every other weekend or day it seems going somewhere or having something to do! It was a life saver for us on 3-6 hour car rides! He uses it sometimes in the house, he has actually learned quite a bit on it! He even taught himself how to really use all the important buttons too! They’re really great but again really depends on your lifestyle too :)

My daughter started with a leap pad and is soaking in EVERYTHING she hears and has learned SO much. I have graduated her to abcmkuse.com and she is learning even more now! 💞

I don't see anything wrong with it either way. I'm not a big fan of screen time. Though my son occasionally got to play puzzles on my phone when I was pregnant with my second and he had to accompany me to my appointments. I don't really think there is any reason for a kid under two to have one, though. After that, I don't see anything wrong with one provided the parent has a limit on how long the child plays with it. I definitely don't feel like my child or any other child is missing out on anything by not having one either. I don't even think mine would get much use out of it anyway. It would probably be a waste of money to get one. He's got a million toys (some expensive and battery operated) and he still prefers his cars, his ball pit, and his crayons over everything. That being said, my husband really wants to get him one for his third birthday and has wanted to since he was one. I'd rather not, but he's just as much my husband's son as mine and I'm probably going to give in this year. He will have time limits on it though. Maybe 30 minutes every other day with "educational" apps or puzzles and he will only be able to play with it once he cleans his room and eats his lunch.

Absolutely not. The only technology she is allowed is my phone and it is strictly for certain situations like long car rides, etc. She knows it’s my phone and it’s the way I call or text people and when I need it, I need it. There is no free reign over it and she never uses it when we are home. Even in the car, it’s a last resort after we have looked at all books, etc. She can maybe get a tablet when she’s 15 🤪

No no no. Our daughter doesn’t have her own but we let her play games on our iPad. We’ve downloaded some great educational games and she loves them but we rarely let her play on it and she never asks for it. We reserve it for road trips, dining out, rainy days, etc. she maybe plays with it a handful of times each month and she’s not missing it.
