Can your OBGYN schedule your induction without telling you?

I just got a call from my doctors office letting me know that my doctor wasn’t going to be in today for my appointment but I would see another doctor because my induction is scheduled for the 8th. My baby’s due date isn’t until the 12th of August. I told the receptionist I don’t have an induction scheduled. She then asked if me and the doctor talked about being induced and I said she let me know it was an option but I NEVER CHOOSE A DATE and never confirmed that I wanted to. Mind you both me and my baby are perfectly healthy and I haven’t had any problems this pregnancy. I’m a first time mom and I’m just wondering if doctors can set up your induction date without your consent??? Thanks everyone! 💕

Of course they can " schedule " anything, but you have to conset /agree to it. They can not force anything you don't want on you. Stay strong, know what you want, and be be confident. You are the patient they work for you, and your birthing plan is what matters wishing you the best.

I was pushed into an induction date by the doc I saw at 41 weeks.  I called later that day and said we would not be coming for the induction.  Not sure why they want to induce you but they can get pushy about an induction. Ultimately, it’s up to you.  If there are medical reasons (preeclampsia, colostasis etc) think strongly about it. But if you are just going late I’d think twice about it.  Most first time moms deliver over 41 weeks.

Depending on the hospital, they may just “put” you on the schedule to secure a spot. 
With my second I had an induction planned, but it was agreed on and discussed with my doctor and I. I never made it to that date though, for medical reasons I was actually induced earlier. 
I’m shocked there wasn’t a consult and discussion about why they want to schedule it. That seems pretty unprofessional.

my doctor never done this, at my 38 week appointment he tells me to pick a birthday & then thats my induction date. i’ve been induced 3 times (one medical, two elective)

Yes they can schedule u but of course u can refuse to and wait. And if nothing happen they eill induce u by 42 weeks no matter what

Well my doctor always told me when he wanted to schedule an induction so idk about that but you don’t HAVE TO be induced if you don’t want to. My doctors office just won’t let their patients go over 41 weeks 6 days or you have to sign a waiver saying YOU choose to do so and not follow the doctors “order”... so it’s ultimately all your decision.
