I think I’m out this month(July)

I went to my doctors for my ac1 (diabetes test) and I went ahead and asked for an hcg test, period due Monday (5th): blood work for hcg came back negative.

Is it possible I could be pregnant? I’ve read where blood test can be as soon as 7-8 days after conception? My doctor said wait until next week if you miss your period come back and we will do another blood work. I’m not too hopeful now, I don’t think it worked for us this month(July)
