Newly diagnosed with PCOS, all advice appreciated ๐Ÿ˜š

My SO and I have been trying for almost 2 years and never had the 2 pink lines we all want. We talked to my doctor a year and a half ago and he said to try another year before getting any checks because he said after being on the pill it will take up to 6 months to get regular periods. Well they never got regular and pain has been getting worse, I've got terrible acne all over my back and chin, even down my neck, gain a whole lot of weight and generally just felt hopeless the last year of trying. โ˜น

Well another year passed and I got a new doctor after a move, and he referred us to a gynecologist who specializes in women's health. We had to wait another 4 months to get an appointment. He did the regular checks and noticed right away that I had recently just had a cyst that had ruptured on my left ovary and I had well over 20 cysts in each of my ovaries..

The thing is I've been to the doctor plenty of times to complain over pain during my period and ovulation, the first being when I was 15, I'm now 30. I've had the same doctor since I was 5 years old and he has never referred me to a specialist. Every time I've had tests done like HPV or a pap smear I've had it done at my regular doctor. Now my new doctor recommended a specialist right away... I'm sure if my old doctor would have taken me seriously I would have known years ago and been able to manage it by now. Now I'm 30 feeling hopeless but hopeful at the same time. I went home started my research and have another appointment with the doc in a few weeks to talk about where we go from here and if I should start with metaformin, hormones or operation. I've already started on a low carb diet as I have gained 50 pounds since getting off the pill 2 years ago.

Any advice is appreciated! And I'd like to hear from my fellow PCOS'ers like when did you get diagnosed, how have you managed, tips on low carb. Basically any advice you'd share with a newly diagnosed PCOS woman ๐Ÿค— thanks in advance ๐Ÿ˜˜
