Really random/several periods?

I've been on birth control for almost a year and for the past 4 months my periods haven't been at the end of my pill pack and ive had more than one in a month. I call the gynocologist and she said it was because I had skipped one day on my pill pack, but I've done that before and nothing happened. Should I switch birth controls? Or is this normal? Help. Having 2-3 periods a month is actually awful.
