Dark blood

i started birth control about 3 months ago and had my period for 2 straight months. I know I’m not on my period right now, but I’ve had dark brown blood or discharge that smells kind of bad, but there’s no weird consistency. It looks like my period but it started just a few days after mine ended and hasn’t gone away. What could this be? I am sexually active so could this be caused by that?
