Late period, no bfps yet...has anyone tested before af was due and had all bfns until late by a few days?

I want to kick myself for testing so early, but lesson learned. Now I won’t even try until I missed af. My doctor said there is still high possibility especially with me being late, but how much hope should I hold onto now? Most girls in here seem to get a positive before af. Now on I’m only using digitals . Tests this morning af is a day late (pretty regular) with frer digital and it said no - . Cycle day 31. I ovulated on or around cycle day 17/18.
