Cyst - aspirate or surgery?
Hi ladies,
Has anyone ever had an ovarian cyst aspirated instead of having surgery? I have a 4.5cm simple cyst on my left ovary, and am hesitant to undergo surgery if it's something that can just be drained. It was discovered about a year and a half ago and grew from 2.5cm to 4.5cm after 2 rounds of clomid for failed IUIs. I always thought it was hormone related bc of how fast it grew while I was on clomid, but then it never resolved so now they think it's a cystadenoma. I've had several ultrasounds and 2 MRIs on my abdomen for unrelated issues and the radiologists were fairly confident that it is benign. It hasn't grown in about a year but it's borderline on the threshold for needing to come out. I've been doing some research and some doctors are now doing aspirations for cysts that are simple in appearance, as they are less likely to be cancerous, but I've been to 2 doctors who are hesitant to aspirate in case the cyst isn't benign, as puncturing it would cause it to spread more rapidly in case of the later.
A bit of background on me - we have unexplained infertility after ttc #1 for over 2 years. I've had an HSG (tubes are clear), all my hormones are relatively normal (AMH is a sub normal but still ovulating on my own), and DH has subnormal motility. We conceived naturally around Christmas in 2013 and miscarried, but have had no luck since. I can't help but think that this cyst has something to do with it so I really want to get it taken care of. Any tips/advice anyone has regarding an aspiration vs. surgery would be great!
