Late period/no help

My period is 8 days late, negative pregnancy test. The last few months ive been missing periods on and off. Every time I go to the doctor to get checked out they try to force birth control on me. They act like its a cure all. Miscarriage? Get on birth control missed period? Birth control. Dont want birth control?? "Well if you dont want birth control what do you expect us to do?" Doctor suggests an alternative pill, calls it some weird name and tells me its not birth control, I go pick up from the pharmacy and thats EXACTLY what it was. The birth control pill, he just said it was something different because i refused birth control. I dont know what to do or what's wrong with my body and theres not another doctor in my area to see me unless i drive over an hour away and pay out of pocket.
