I was given the steroid shots when they stopped my preterm labor at 33 weeks, I have GD as well and they told me that my sugar levels would rise like crazy - my doctor told me I wouldn’t be getting accurate glucose readings until 2 weeks after my last steroid dose. I was curious and took my blood sugar the night after my first shot and it was 178 😳 I’ve since noticed them level out faster than those 2 weeks, I think as long as we keep monitored and not stress (I know it’s hard) it’s still manageable. I have a planned c section this time around after my emergency c section with my first.
GD & Steroid Shot
Due to having an emergency classical csection with my first I have to deliver my second via csection at 36 weeks. The plan was to give me the steroid shots for babies lungs the 2 days before my csection, but that changed when I was diagnosed with GD. Now they want to give me the steroids a week before the csection because it will cause my blood sugars to rise dramatically. They told me to prepare to need to be admitted into the hospital for a couple of days so they can get my levels down before baby comes. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this & what their experience was like.
Thank you!
