Breastfeeding after c-section?

Question

Anyone ever have trouble breastfeeding after a c-section or is it still okay??
I guess I also worry with all the pain meds you take after how it might affect the baby, no?
FTM with a scheduled c-section tomorrow and nervous....

When I had my csection they immediately placed my son on my chest, where he stayed until it was time to move over to recovery. By the time we got to recovery he had latched and was getting his colostrum, a day later my milk came in full force and we were doing really well other then the fact he refused to latch on my left boob. When we got home from the hospital my fight nip was destroyed and bleeding and it hurt soooo bad that I ended up pumping and giving him a bottle until my nips healed. Once they healed up a bit, he latched right back on and we didnt have any issues. Definitely go to the lactation specialist even if you feel like it's going great.

I had to wait a little over an hour to be able to hold & feed my baby because I was shaking so badly from the surgery, but since that initial latch, we’ve had a pretty perfect breastfeeding experience over the past 2 & 1/2 months. I also took my pain meds & didn’t notice any changes in my baby’s behavior. I recommend using a breastfeeding pillow & the football hold for the first few weeks until you’re not in pain anymore.

No problem what so ever.  Pain meds after the initial spinal block is just Tylenol and Motrin.  If you really need something stronger they’ll give it to you, but honestly recovery is better without the strong pain killers.  In both my c sections I didn’t need anything extra.  
Just make sure to drink plenty of water!

My first was an emergency C-section, he was born premature. He was on a feeding tube at first, so I pumped for him. He received breastmilk him for 3 weeks, mostly pumped since he was in the NICU. He got used to the bottle and had no interest in breastfeeding. He was switched to formula.
My second C-section, my daughter was able to latch on with no problems and breastfeed. She's now 2 1/2 and still breastfed. We've had no problems with her journey.

Mine was scheduled they put her on my chest soon as she was out and she was trying to find food as they were finishing up. She had a hard time latching on one side at first. For me it was only hard to feed her while in the hospital because I didn't bring my boppy. Soon as we got home it was so much easier. Definitely see a lactation specialist. I'm thinking of going back now because she should be starting solids soon and I'm also trying to get her to take a bottle (it's not working out so far) so I can try to find a job to help support all 3 of my kids and give a little relief to my so and our budget.

L&D nurse here 🙋🏼‍♀️ No need to worry, they will only give you medications that are safe for you and baby while breast feeding. If you’re ever concerned about what meds will go through the breast milk and get to the baby you can look them up on an app like “LactMed”. Medications like Percocet which are often used for pain don’t transfer very heavily into the breast milk. Therefore it’s safe for both you and baby!

I breast fed immediately after being placed in my room for recovery. I was given ibuprofen for pain and narcotics if I wanted them but only took them one time. Baby girl and I didn’t have any issues until 3 days later when she developed jaundice. The nurses in the NICU gave her a pacifier when I went to take a shower. After that she wouldn’t latch without a nipple shield but we used it and still breastfed until she was about 15 months.

I had about a 2 hour delay starting skin to skin because I was shaking and they had a hard time managing my pain in recovery.
Anyway once it was under control we started working on latching.
Honestly I think the extra days in the hospital helped us as I had extra help from LC and nurses on positioning and latches.
My hardest issue was I was up for 30 hours before my c section in traditional labor and REALLY struggled with exhaustion as baby roomed in the whole time.
I think having a scheduled surgery would really help that aspect.
