Our 1 year wedding anniversary is coming up and my DH surprised me by getting time off work. He wants to go to the beach so I started looking for hotels. I found one that was nice- pool, beachfront, bar with pool table etc. But it was a little more than we were expecting to pay. Next thing I know hes bringing me his phone and has called another hotel I know nothing about and the only room available is one with 2 double beds. I google and see its actually a motel, no pool, looks like something out of a Rob Zombie film, and a walk to the beach but is cheaper than what we were trying to spend. To add salt to the wound its a motel hes been to before with his ex GF before me and I've already heard all about just took me a second to put the pieces together. Now this alone sounds silly sure but every time we go on vacation whether its the beach or mountains its somewhere hes gone before with this ex. I was hoping to go somewhere we've never been and make our own memories not go to the same restaurant, stay at the same hotel, walk down the same trails etc. I explained how I felt and he just gawked that it won't be the same room.

We never went on a honeymoon due to his work obligations and I don't think its too much to ask for a decent hotel especially one that doesn't require us to move beds together or risk bringing back bed bugs. He just keeps arguing that I don't need chocolates on my pillow and he didn't think I was that type of person-- the hotel I wss interested in said nothing about chocolates on the pillow he was just being malicious. This motel is 20 years family owned and operated and the guy is really nice apparently but none of this means its a nice clean place to stay.

We booked the motel reluctantly since its prime beach time and rates are only going to go up. I'm not looking forward to this trip at all.

Am I being ridiculous?
