No bashing I just need some advice

Me and my bf been dating for four years and friends for three years. In October he had to get my ring size. Now his telling me to set the date but the problem is we didn’t get engaged yet. I’m excited his finally talking about marriage but should we get engaged first. We’re trying to get a house together this year/next year. And he wants the wedding to be next year in November. What should I do or say. Thank you for the advice in advance. No bashing on it please we’re all grown women here I just want advice
