Is my breast milk enough?

I had my baby on the 8th and she’s only been breastfeeding but it’s been so hard. Today is our first day home from the hospital and i feel like she’s not getting enough. This is my first time pumping and this is all I’ve pumped for about 10 minutes on each side. Is this enough or should i be making more by now?

A newborn's tummy is SUPER tiny and the first week they only need a little bit. Your baby can get more out of your breasts than a pump can so don't be discouraged by what you see after pumping. Also your body usually only makes as much as baby needs at the time so especially if you have a newborn you're not going to have a ton of milk yet. This is fine right now. Just nurse as often as possible and pump in between if you're trying to build a stash. As the weeks go on you'll make more.

Yes and the more she eats the more you will produce. Just make sure to drink alot of water per day. I drink close to a gallon a day which has helped keep my supply up good job mama keep up the good work 😁

Your milk has barely come in at this point. Your baby will seem to eat constantly those first few days but its important to let them eat from the breast so they can get what they need. They’re much better at getting the milk out. I would recommend not pumping for a few weeks.

And remember this; It cannot be stressed enough that the amount of milk you able to pump is NOT ever a reliable indicator of how much milk you are producing, nor how much milk baby is taking in. The healthy breastfed baby is usually much more efficient at getting milk from the breast than a pump is.

I gave birth to my second on the 5th. Drink water like crazy. I agree, it helps more than you know. Also, know that no pump will empty you more efficiently than your baby. When you nurse, your baby is likely taking more than you’re pumping. Don’t be discouraged. You’re doing great, Mama.
