Babies first bath??

Question

Do nurses give your baby their first bath at the hospital??? Can your husband or yourself do this?? Should you pack the wash care supplies you’d prefer to use on your baby if you have preferences about natural/organic? Can you ask for bathing to be delayed (after 12 hours of birth)?
So many questions lol

I’ve always heard it’s good to put off bathing your new born baby. You want to give their skin the opportunity to absorb the good bacteria and other things that they get on their skin during birth. 
Just asked that the nurses didn’t bathe my baby’s. And I did it after I got home, around the 2nd day after they were born.

They will give baby a sponge bath. You can tell them you want to do it yourself...or postpone until you get home. The vernix is SO good for baby. It’s good for their skin and immune system. I didn’t bathe my baby at all until she was 1 week. Of course you can’t bathe in water until the cord falls off.

Yes you can delay the bath. At my hospital they delay it automatically. It's just a sone bath they do since you can't fully bathe until the umbilical cord falls off. And again at our hospital the nurse is there to help but she had my husband hold him and I did the washing. I don't see why they would have an issue if your brought your own soaps. Every hospital is different though.

They gave my first a bath after I fell asleep after delivery and I was so upset when I woke up 😭😭😭 gone was that fresh baby smell and all her protective vernix.
Second time, I made it clear they couldn’t bathe her until I decided.  They wiped the vernix from her hair but left it up to me to bathe her.  I rubbed her vernix into her skin over the next few days like a salve.  Her skin was SOOO much better off than her sister’s was.  No peeling, no baby acne, no rashes.  I wiped down spots that needed cleaning from milk or spit up etc, but she got her first real bath after her umbilical cord fell off.
This time, I’m giving birth in a birth center so it’s 100% up to me when I want to bathe him.  I’ll probably do similar as to what I did with my second.

My baby didn’t get bathed at the hospital but I had baby at 4:20am and was home by 1pm Same day. I didn’t bath her straight away

I don’t believe you can bathe a baby until their umbilical cord falls off. I’m sure you can use wash clothes to clean babies or rinse their heads if that’s what you’re referring too.

Depends on the hospital. Mine bathed my daughter due to meconium in my water at birth and her needing to be in the NICU. I wasn't stable enough to be up at the NICU, but they did let parents participate in baths I  the NICU when possible.

Most hospitals these days recommend waiting until 24 hours after birth to bathe the baby. The vernix is very beneficial.
