As a black woman I got my first taste of white privilege.
So me and my husband got into our first ever blow up. It’s the first time he yelled such harsh words at me. We were in public and after he did that he shoved me so I shoved him back. That’s when a “witness” saw me hit my husband for “no reason” so he called the cops. At this point I’m telling the man that is he claims to have seen everything then he would’ve seen my husband push me first. At this point my husband took our infant from the car and ran inside of the store with her while she was screaming for me. So of course I got our other kids out of the car to go inside and get the baby. My husband told me “if you want the baby back you need to give me your car keys” I’m like whatever dude just take the keys. I give him the keys and begin to leave when 5 cop cars pull up. My husband, a white man fers approached calmly by the lead office in charge and gets to tell his story meanwhile I’m approached by some ass hole cop that just walked up immediately yelling at me. No one asked my side of the story. They questioned my 6 year old without my permission although his story confirmed what I said they disregarded it because “he’s 6 and doesn’t know what he’s talking about”
So why even ask in the first place? They then proceeded to “check the tapes” but claim they didn’t see anything but me when I shoved him and started to chase him into the store. How could they not see him push me first if it all happened in the same spot? So I was taken into custody without getting to share my story, and I feel I wasn’t treated fairly. I kept asking he officer of the tapes were checked and what he saw and he kept answering “we will talk at the station” to all of my questions. So when we get to the station I’m asking my questions and he’s talking me to leave him alone and stop acting like a child that keeps asking “are we there yet” basically I was blown off, no one wanted to take my sons statement since it went along with my story. They’d rather listen to this man and my husband lying as if he didn’t push me first. Can I beat this in court?
