Tooth gap from braces

I’m so upset. I wore braces for 2 1/2 years, on top of getting 5 teeth removed. After getting braces off & a few months after I started to noticed a space between my two bottom teeth. I’ve worn my retainer every night since getting my braces removed. I went to my dentist to find out why and she told me because braces weakened my teeth which led to the gap. So I might have to get implants!! Idk what to do.. should I go back to my orthodontist & explain to him what happened? I haven’t seen him in a year. It’s just I’ve always been insecure about my teeth & I thought after braces I would be confident but the opposite:(
