Breast or formula

Hey ladies. I have two kiddos one is almost two and one is 5 days old. I didn’t breast feed my first for very long but I decided to try to exclusively breastfeed my 5 day old. Well here I am at 5 days with scabbed nipples that are very sore and I have to use a nipple shield because my nipples aren’t long enough to stimulate the food of her mouth. It’s been a battles since day one and I’m starting to want to give up at use formula but I’m having so much guilt about it. Any advice?

It DOES get easier. If you want this, don’t quit on a hard day. If you’re okay giving formula, that’s completely your choice. The first few months were tough but we made it and went on to nurse for just shy of two years.

I really don’t want to do formula at all. I just get so worried that she isn’t getting enough to eat and I’m honestly just starting to feel like a completely failure😕

Don’t feel guilty. The most important thing is baby being fed. Maybe try some nipple creams to help

I knew from the moment I got pregnant that i would never breastfeed. My baby has been strictly formula fed from day 1. She is just as happy, healthy, and perfect as any other baby. Fed is best. Do whatever you want.

My first was a long hard road. A Lactation consultant was my saving grace.

Do whatever you think is right. I was unable to exclusively breastfeed my daughter and ended up combination feeding with breast milk and formula until she was 10 months. It was so convenient and took the pressure off of me and made weaning very easy. It also made for a very easy going baby who had no trouble on the bottle at daycare or with others. I also was able to let her sleep at night which she already wanted to do. By a month or so she was sleeping 6 hour stretches at night.

Thanks for your input guys. I went and saw a lactation consultant and they recommended a nipple shield and since we got one things have been great!! I haven’t given her any formula and she’s been gaining weight and latching perfectly!!

I swear I had the grand canyon on one of my nipples and it took forever to hear, every time I would feed I'd say this is the last one, but then babe was hungry so I would try one more, he's now 18 months and I never had to use formula, it is Soo worth it for so many reasons..better for babe, better for you, the environment, your pocket....but honestly end of the day it matters that babes fed and you're sane (as sane as can be expected)
