Tampons

So I’m 16 yrs old and I have never worn a tampon before, I tried once when I was 14 but it hurt and I gave up trying. I’m soon going to start synchronized swimming and i know I will have to wear a tampon on my period, so I hope you guys can help me please with any advice you might have. Thank you!
