Is it weird to name your kid after a baseball player?

So my husband and I LOVE baseball, specifically the Mets (we live in Missouri, how we love a New York team is beyond me) and it’s how we met and bonded. Our favorite player is Pete Alonso, and I was wondering if we could name our son after him? Would it be odd since we’ve never met the guy? He’s still a rookie but has shattered records before the year is even over, and is a home run BEAST. I feel naming him after such a successful and all-around awesome guy may boost his confidence later in life? I mentioned it to my husband and he LOVES the idea, but I didn’t tell him about my doubts. Your thoughts?
