When to transfer my 2 year old to a toddler bed?

Have you yet? My son still doesn’t climb out of his crib and debating if I should transition him into a toddler bed that his crib turns into or wait a bit longer? I feel like my son would get off the bed right away like he does to my bed in my bedroom (which my bed is very tall and he just puts his legs down and gets off, he’s very tall; when he goes onto it during the day sometimes lol so I’m not sure how’d he do with his own!

Mine loves his crib and never tries to climb out but we're having twins in a few months and we need his crib.  So we bought a toddler bed by the same maker as the crib so it looks very similar.  Last night we gave him a pillow for the first time.  Next week we'll give him a sheet.  Then a week or two after that we'll switch him to the toddler bed.

Transitioned my 2 year old about 2 months ago because she was climbing out of her crib.  The first three weeks were rough, but she has been consistently sleeping all night in her toddler bed for about a month!  We just have a toddler rail and a blanket rolled up under the sheet!  I didn’t want to switch her to a toddler bed, but I had no choice.

My son is the same way. He doesn’t attempt to climb out and is still comfortable in his crib - plus I am 100% certain he would just get up and come into our room in the middle of the night. So there has been no need to transition... however, that’s going to change with the new baby arriving in December because I will not be purchasing a second crib 😬

I’ve always been told if they are content to just keep them in as long as possible. My first was almost 3 before she started climbing out and she kept doing. We took the side off her crib and put the toddler rail on and she did great. A year later and she’s fine but we are going to buy a twin for soon. 
My second just turned two last week. The very next day she was climbing out. Fortunately, she only did it that day so we are just keeping her in until her little brother is ready to move into her room around December. Then we will get her in a twin bed too. Good luck.

So we had our daughter in a mini crib, which is basically the same size as a pack n play, just more solid like a real crib. A few months ago we noticed she was getting too big for it, like if she wanted to stretch out her head and feet would be touching the top and bottom ends of the crib. So we got her a used crib off Facebook marketplace, and it happened to be one that you can leave the front off to make it a toddler bed. When we set it up we thought why not try it as a toddler bed see what happens. She took to it INSTANTLY. Like literally zero adjustment time, took a nap in there with no problems and continued sleeping in it without the front on. She knows she can get in and out but she usually just doesn’t. We still have her in our bedroom which has basically nothing fun to play with (we have our bed, and a couple under bed boxes with shoes in them, and that’s literally it) so she usually just goes to sleep. 
I think it might help that it still has three high crib-like sides, and just the front is off. So maybe it kind of feels right to her like “ok it’s still a crib” even though she can get in and out. 
For falling out of the bed we wrapped a fat pool noodle in a blanket, then put it under her fitted sheet on the outside edge and it’s worked amazing. I looked into the bed rail things but most of them fold down and so you need to put the mattress on a higher level so they can fold all the way down. I preferred having the mattress low so it’s easy for her to get in and out so the pool noodle works great. Doesnt slip around at all with the blanket around it too and she doesn’t fall out anymore (was happening every night sometimes multiple times before we put on the noodle).
