For me it took 2 months to get my promise ring , it depends on your partner , it's not about how long it's how they feel about you  in the time being .

It all depends on you and your boyfriend...like I have friends that did the promise ring thing and it worked for them. Me personally I don't think there is a need for a promise ring. I'm a very non materialistic person and so is my boyfriend and we just see them as reasons for girls to brag about their relationship. If you are in a committed relationship you should show your devotion to the other person with words and actions. Don't get me wrong I think they are cute gestures and all but nothing I would invest in in my relationship. My my boyfriend and I have been together for a year and a half, lived together for the past year, and engagement is in the near future...no promise ring needed.
