Bedtime routine

So what’s people’s bedtime routine?

Ever since my son was born he’s been fed to sleep (I know he’s 5 months but it was literally the only way he would sleep and it worked for him and he’d sleep 6 hour stretches) anyway his sleep has done a complete 360 and I’m lucky if he does about an hour atm.

I’m trying to not feed to sleep but it’s so hard because I’ve got to feed him before bed and even if it’s like an hour before bedtime sometimes he just falls asleep... I give him a bath every night and usually feed him after the bath and he goes to sleep...

So what I’m asking is what time scale and order should I do everything in? Bedtime is 7pm

Bath, lotion, jammies, bottle, sleep sack and bed. I just make sure he doesn't fall asleep during the bottle and that he goes down awake.

We start bath time at 630-645. Diaper/lotion/pjs then i feed her, sing to her, white noise, sleep sack and rock to sleep if she hasn’t already fell asleep when I’m nursing her and then i put her in the crib. It takes about 35 mins depending on how long she wants to nurse.

We fed around 630 or 7 and start our bedtime routine at 7301. Turn on the small light in her room so the light is dim not too bright 2. Turn on her music (playlist on my phone) so it plays throughout our routine3. change into pajamas and a sleep sack or swaddle4. Story time... one or two depending on how long they are 5. One or two snuggle songs. We rock in her rocking chair snuggled up close. I pat her back so she gets sleepy6. I put her down in her crib usually while she is still awake7. I turn off the playlist and turn on a nightlight that plays instrumental lullaby music.

Ummm hard to say. Weve been doing it pretty much since we brought her home. But I can tell it calms her. Especially when we snuggle and rock

Thanks for your reply... how long did it take for your daughter to get used to this routine?

I feed around 6:30/7 if she needs a bath it’s usually 6:15-6:30, then feed, then we go into her room change into pjs and change diaper then we read a book or two and then I put her in her crib in her sleep sack and turn the sound machine on and walk out. If she is super cranky we do the exact same thing just the shortest book lol

Lol we tried reading my son a bedtime story but he wasn’t having any of it so we’ve given up for now. If I give him a bath then feed him he just falls asleep on me, just struggling to get him to stay awake for his last feed atm I’m sure I’ll get there

I was struggling with feeding to sleep as well, I honestly think it is/was the culprit to all the night waking and short naps. What I've started doing is feeding in a well lit, open space with the radio on. Aka no feeding in his nice quiet rocking chair in his room. If he starts to fall asleep I sing to him (nothing soothing) or talk to him and pat his back. Before naps I try to feed about 30 mins before I think its nap time. Before bed I started feeding before bath. I was so scared to do this but it worked great last night! Half an hour before bed I fed, then bath, then dressed, sleep sack, books then rocked him to sleep.

Love the country music 😂😂 so glad last night was a bit better! We've got our little one in his own room now and I think that is helping too because i am not interfering with his sleep so much. I think he is putting himself back to sleep on his own more as I don't jump to help as every little grunt 😅

I agree with feeding to sleep is probably the culprit for my sons short naps and waking up constantly because last night I fed him, then bath then daddy put his music on (for some reason my son likes country music and it seems to be the only thing that will soothe him lol think I may have listened to it a bit too much when he was in my belly!) rocked him till he was sleepy and popped him in his cot, within 4 mins he was spark out!! He was fast asleep until I came to bed as he’s in our room until we’ve decorated his. He slept ok last night but still woke up 2/3 times which is actually a lot better than normal for him!

Hi Tee! Just wondering if there is anything wrong with feeding before bed time? I’ve been doing that too since my little one was born and he is almost 5 months now. He falls asleep after 30-40mims of breastfeeding before bed. I think is the only way he can sleep through the night waking up only 2 time to eat.

That’s all I want my nights back so I can get more than 30 mins/an hours sleep at a time 😩

(Didn’t mean to hit reply yet) Now that the sleep regression has hit, she wakes up 2 times a night looking for a nipple to go back to sleep, even though she’s not hungry. So now I have to wean her from that sleep association so I can get my nights back!

There’s nothing wrong with it if you’re happy to do it! I breastfed my baby to sleep most nights, and she was sleeping 10-11 hours a night.

We keep our baby out of his swaddle until it’s bedtime so he’s jot as warm. That seems to help

Thanks for getting back to me... if I feed him after his bath he just falls fast asleep on me then I pop him in his cot and he’s wide awake ready to party lol!
