What do you do if...

so the other night my bestfriend confided in me and told me she was sexually assaulted and i don’t know what to do to be there for her. can someone please help??

Answer

Tell her that her experience was valid and the way she feels is valid. Remind her that she is still worthy of genuine, deep and abiding love, and help her on her journey to eventually forgive and let go of the hurt. Forgiving doesn’t mean excusing what the assaulter did, nor does it mean letting them back into her life, but it does mean relieving herself of the pain and burden she may still be carrying. Most of all just love her unconditionally and never let this change how you view or treat her.

It's really important to let her make decisions as to what she wants to do going forward and respect that. If you don't understand what she has been through, tell her that but also tell her you want to understand and ask if she can explain? Also,  allow her to tell you what she wants to in her own time. It may take her years before she tells you all the details, which is fine. The biggest thing i found was asking the person what you can do to help? It helps people take control back
