Boyfriend wants a break

So my boyfriend has told me he wants a break, and it's been a week. And I know why he wants the break. He's 21 and afraid to lose his freedom because we were getting pretty serious. But why can't he understand he can still have his freedom with me? We dont have to do everyrhing together, I just want at least one day, even if its just for a few hours. And I'm going strong, he asked to hangout and i told him we can't until he makes up his mind. But god do I miss him. And i wish I was weak so i can just see him. I'm ok sometimes but there are times where I just feel lost and broken. I just dont know what to do. I feel like I'm constantly just waiting for him to message me.
