She’s here! 1 week PP delivery story

Kim • Aspyn Lorelei - 08/14/2019 💕

Now that I am officially 1 week PP, if anyone cares to listen about my birth story, here goes! It’s a long, detailed one which is probably jumbled so brace yourself! 😁

It all started out on Tuesday the 13th. That was the day I was 40 weeks exactly. I had my weekly chiropractor appt and then my 40 week obgyn appt. At my doctor appt, I had a different doctor (which I was fine with because I had seen her before and loved her). Anyway, at this appt, she asked if I wanted my membranes swept. I said sure, if it’s warranted. So she decided to check me first and that’s when she said “you’re changed alright.” Thinking to myself, did I got below 1 cm that I was the past 2 appts? She announced that I was 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced with a -2 station! I’m like OMG! Now at this point, I wasn’t sure if I actually did have my membranes swept but I was fine either way. After she left the room, I’m getting changed. I usually wipe myself to get the remaining lube cleaned up when I notice pinkish blood. Thankfully the doctor was finishing up my information for the computer and I asked her if that was ok? She said it’s perfectly normal. PHEW! That’s when she asked if I wanted to be set up for an induction date. WELL OF COURSE I DO! So she said she would try for that upcoming Monday the 19th (since my original doctor doesn’t allow patients to go past 41 weeks before deciding on an induction). She told me though “I don’t think you will need an induction however. You’re a prime patient to go naturally with how far along you are inside so pack your bags!” I laugh and head on out. I get home and decide, “hmm, maybe I should shower and wash my hair in case she is right!” So I do my business and get all cleaned up. I joke with my sister via text, “doctor said I should have my bags packed after my appt so I’m washing my hair just in case!” She’s like, “yea good idea! Wouldn’t wanna be half way through and you go into labor!” Anyway, it’s about 7:30 pm (less than 3 hours that I had just seen the doctor kind you) when I start to get some BH (which were completely normal the last 2 weeks of pregnancy for me) coupled with a few cramps down below my belly button. I call my mom and tell her. She’s like, “you should probably keep track of how often they are happening.” I’m all like, “ok, mom, ok, sure!” (Even though moms usually know best). Now about 30 mins pass and I’m like, “ok, they’re getting kinda intense but nothing unbearable.” My mom keeps checking in now at this point saying that I should probably head to the hospital. Again, me not being the rusher, I download a contraction app and officially start timing them at 8:30 pm (app said to start timing them for an hour so I make it about 15 mins in when the app says that I should pack my bags and head to the hospital! They were coming about every 3 mins and lasting for about 45 seconds to a min long. Still not rushing to do anything though 😅). After the app told me in a short time span to head to the hospital 2x and my mom telling me I should tell my husband we should go, I walk downstairs and tell my husband. He’s all like, “are they bad? I think you’ll be fine. It’s all in your head. Don’t let your mom get into your head.” OK 👍🏻 so at like 9:00-9:15 pm I decided to call the on call doctor and she’s all like, “this is how I determine if you should go into the hospital. If you can’t walk, talk, or laugh, it’s time.” So of course my husband was all like, “see?? You’re fine.” WELL...In fact I was not fine. Fast forward a couple hours, let’s say around 12:30 am, those BH combined with the sharp cramping below my belly button were coming on pretty consistent to the point where any position I could not get comfortable with. No sleep at all. I’m constantly getting up, sitting down on the corner of the bed, etc. Fast forward once again and it’s now around 4:00 am and my husband is now all like, “oh shit, I don’t think she’s fine.” 🙄 WELL DUH! I’m doubled over in pain, in complete tears and I’d like to think I handle pain pretty well. (He didn’t say that but he did get to immediately and say to me, “I’m gonna brush my teeth”-I knew that it was go time). So I’m trying to get my depend diaper on (I was afraid we waited too long and the bulging down there that I felt was the baby crowning-needed something to try and keep her in in case she was coming). I already had an outfit picked out for this moment so I’m trying to balance through contractions all while getting dressed. We load up into the car and head downtown into the city. We arrive at the hospital and I’m all doubled over in pain trying to breathe and walk while my husband is all knees to chesting it when he realizes “oops, my wife is way behind.” 🙄 So he hurries to me and we get inside, press the elevator button to room 2 and head into triage. This is when I’m asked to fill out some notecard of quick information (clearly I can’t even think at this time so thankfully the lady asks the questions and in between contractions I give her the information). Since it was so early in the morning, we were able to get pulled back into a room for assessment. I was told to pee into a cup. That’s when I went to pull down my trusty depend and saw that my bloody show was there ready for the performance of a lifetime! My husband starts gagging and in between contractions I tell him not to look at the blood clot twinged pee in a cup. He’s all like, “I’m not puking over that! I’m puking cause I’m nervous!” Anyway, I finish up, he finishes puking and I lay down on the gurney. The one doctor that needed to see how far along I was dilated arrives and begins to check. That’s when SHIT 👏🏻 GOT 👏🏻 SUPER 👏🏻 REAL 👏🏻 I heard the magical “pop”. MY WATER HAD BROKEN! Oh Lordy! Jesus take the wheel. That’s the weirdest sensation ever feeling the gush of warm water that our soon to be daughter lived in for 9 months. So here I am at 6 cm really contracting now. The doctor noticed I had meconium in my water so extra care was going to be needed at birth. After 2 failed attempts to IV me on the left arm and 2 more failed attempts on the right, the one nurse or anesthesiologist was able to IV me on the not so ideal spot in the bend of my elbow. So quickly I’m taken up to LDR and checked once again. I’m now at 7 cm - or so I thought. The obgyn doctor checked me a little later and said, “you’re at 5 cm.” WAIT WHAT? How do you go down in dilation? Apparently my bulging sac pressed on my cervix causing it to dilate more than I actually was. ANYWAY, fast forward AGAIN and I am set up for my epidural. THOSE THINGS ARE MAGICAL BTW! 🙌🏻 well they were at least until I needed to be cathed with a Foley catheter. That’s when I started to feel contractions down in my hoo haa 😭 Eventually after several hours, and me using the peanut ball to try and get her to move down the birth canal, a few nurses come rushing into the room. Babies heartbeat was not registering. So at this point I’m bawling my eyes out. They had to stop pitocin because it was affecting baby. Fast forward a bit, I realized the pain I had been feeling in my hoo haa and butthole was not normal (yea, not normal cause apparently the need to poop was basically go time). So after feeling that pain for a couple hours, the obgyn that would be delivering my baby decided to check me. She’s all like, “you’re at 10 cm!!” Immediately I begin crying saying, “oh no! That means it’s time to push!! I’m not ready for this!” I’m both crying to my parents and husband. They comfort me down along with the laboring doctor and nurse and leave the room for the attending L&D nurse to help guide me to a successful delivery. So the time is now 1:30 pm and I begin to push. Eventually after some time has passed, my baby starts to crown and my husband and the nurse are all like, “SHE HAS SO MUCH DARK HAIR!” The laboring doctor now comes back into the room ready for the baby all scrubbed up. My husband was coaching me the breaths and pushing procedure the L&D nurse was telling him. After the laboring doctor performed an episiotomy, that’s when my job was almost done with pushing (which ouch by the way! SO MUCH BURN). He did an exceptional job because at 3:11 PM, Aspyn Lorelei was born into the world! My husband unfortunately did not get to cut her cord because we made the decision early on, with her being subjected to meconium in the womb, her health was more important to get the immediate care from the NICU nurses/doctors. She gave some squeals and screams and it was deemed that no NICU stay was necessary! THANK GOODNESS! I still can’t believe that I am FINALLY a mom after 6.5 years of trying. My husband and I are so in love with her as are our dogs (who have taken to her as nanny dogs). Anyway, here is a little flashback of where we started with pictures of her to now in this world. ENJOY ❤️
