Ob doesn’t check me for dilation?

I’m 34 weeks pregnant (yes I know that’s too early to start checking) but I went toy Ob doctor yesterday for my normal 2 week check up and while I was there I asked him when he would start checking for dilation. He told me probably never until I’m around 39 or 40 weeks unless I just absolutely wanted to be checked. I thought it was really strange cause everyone else I know says they started getting checked every Ob visit starting around 35-38 weeks. Anyone else experienced this?

Some don't. How dilated you are doesn't say very much. You could be 1cm dilated and go into labor the next day or be 3cm dilated and not go into labor for a week.

Thats completely normal. One of mine didnt start checking til 38 weeks & at another office they offered to check at 36. Its really not necessary anyway unless you're having contractions or something.

My doctor doesn’t check until 37 weeks and after. And that’s only if you request it. You can also deny checks all together as well. They’re not necessary and can’t determine when you’ll go into labor. You can be dilated for weeks before labor actually occurs.

They don’t check at my clinic.  It’s not a good indicator of when you’ll go into labor and can cause unnecessary cramping, bleeding, and mucous plug loss.

Getting check is a definitive answer. You change dilated to a 3 and totally effaced and still not go into lab for weeks. My doctor never does unless you have other issues.

Yeah that's normal. I didn't get checked with my first until 38 weeks or so and I asked. It hurts, though and I wasn't even dilated when they checked.

Honestly unless you think you’re dilating, you shouldn’t be getting check in my opinion. If you feel pressure and more Mucousy discharge than normal then ask. It’s not necessary to check

My doctor didn’t until my last appointment. Most doctors don’t bother because it really means nothing.  You can go from nothing to labor in a matter of hours and some people walk around 4cm dilated for weeks with nothing progressing.
