Buy them gently used!!! I think for 45 diapers (30 toddler size and 15 newborn) we spent $300. But she wore the same 15 newborn diapers for the first seven months of her life. (9-18lbs)

I exclusively use prefolds. Those and the diaper covers cost me maybe $50.

I spent maybe 200 tops. I was able to use Amazon gift cards and I do covers and prefolds which is definitely a cheaper way to go. I also got some as gifts before and after baby was born.

I bought 4 different brands in sets of 6 from Amazon and they all came with inserts. I spent around $200.

My sister found someone who was "closing up shop" and I got 36 new for $85, traded the 9 boy prints (free trade) with a woman desperate to get rid of her unwanted girl stash, she gave me 30. 
Always compare prices of new when buying used, sometimes I see people selling used that cost more than new 😂

I spent just over $700 (also switched to cloth wipes) and the brand I use are organic. I definitely got more then I needed so realistically $400 probably would have got me enough
