Birth Control while Breastfeeding?

Hey friends! So I’m about 8.5 weeks PP now. Obvi I wasn’t on birth control after last time I gave birth, because I got pregnant right away. I don’t need it right away, my fiancé has had a serious back injury for the last 7 months and it’s still unresolved, so we’re definitely not “active” ever or will be until he has surgery and recovers. BUT I’m wondering for when I do start birth control..those of you who breastfed, what was your birth control of choice, did it affect your supply, pros and cons?

The mini pill is safe for breastfeeding and does not impact supply. Because it doesn’t have estrogen, it is not as effective as the standard pill so you need to be diligent to take it at the exact same time every day but that’s the main downside. Some women experience side effects like any birth control pill but I haven’t had that.

I’ve also been on the mini pill for about 5 months. My daughter is almost 14 months old and occasionally still breastfeeding. I didn’t notice any differences to my milk supply when I started it and she didn’t notice any difference to the taste (or so it seems). So it’s worked well for me - can recommend.

Im on the mini pill and it has been great so far. I’m still breastfeeding my baby girl of 13 months. I just had my first period on it but it’s so light I  didn’t need a pad.

I got pregnant a number of years ago while on the mini pill, despite taking it religiously, so I switched to a Mirena IUD and haven't thought twice about trying anything else. I had a Mirena for about five years before getting it taken out prior to TTC my July 2018 baby, and got my second one put in last summer at 6 weeks PP. I know it's not for everyone, but it's been GREAT for me. I used to get debilitating cramps every month, even on the pill, now I barely notice, and bleeding is super light and only lasts a few days. I'm still breastfeeding my July 2018 baby thirteen months later, so no issues on that front, either!
