No, this sounds unusual to me. There's really no reason to induce before 41 weeks in a normal,  healthy pregnancy. I imagine they must have to cancel a lot of appointments if they're scheduling everyone for "just in case" inductions weeks ahead of time.  Doesn't sound like a very efficient use of their time 🤷‍♀️

Many doctors will induce at 39 weeks. Research has shown that elective  induction at 39 weeks actually results in less maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality than expectant management (waiting to go into labor in your own).

Yes I was given the option to schedule an induction in case I went over my due date by 10 days (thats the earliest they'll induce you where I live). I scheduled it.

There’s a certain scale they use age, risks, current health etc, depending on what you score is how likely an induction will be successful so the induce accordingly. My doc wouldn’t schedule for induction until I was 41 weeks. I’m 22 weeks and scheduled for my csection at 39 weeks so depends on the doctor and situation.

I'm almost 36 weeks and my doctor said we can schedule my c-section/possible induction at my next visit for 39 weeks. Baby boy is still breech but hoping he turns in time. They are only doing it early because my blood pressure has been very high.

I was scheduled because of an aging placenta and because I had a previous csection, he doesn’t want me to go over 40wks.  I am scheduled 4 days before my due date.

Inducing at 39 weeks was given to me as an option however at my 38 week appt (yesterday) I wasn’t dilated at all, cervix is not soft, and baby is high. Because my condition is not favorable right now we could not schedule the induction. So basically yes some doctors will induce at 39 weeks but things have to be optimal. My doctor was basically like if you were to get induced then it would most likely go badly since you aren’t yet dilated or anything. Its best to wait as of now
