Do you feel dialation?

I’m 38 weeks & my OB won’t check for dilation as she says it can unnecessarily cause infection & bacteria. My question is, for those that are dilated, are you feeling contractions or anything that is letting you know you are progressing? I feel nothing, ever which is frustrating because I don’t feel like anything is happening. Thanks!

You don’t have to have contractions to dialate. I have had some but nothing consistent and am 1cm dilated. The only reason I got checked was because they were already down there doing my Group B test and won’t be tested again. There really is no need because unless you are in active labor, dialation doesn’t mean anything

You cannot feel yourself dilate. All you will feel are the contractions.

I barely got checked today at 39 weeks & it was so painful. Only 1cm dialated

I have contractions from time to time and sometimes feel pressure on my cervix but that's it. I'm 1 and a half centimeters

They usually only check 37 weeks then again at 40 weeks

I was 1cm dilated and baby’s head was super low at my 36 week appointment and I hadn’t been having any symptoms or contractions so I was surprised. So, for all you know you could be progressing :)
