Ex boyfriends suck ass

I think it's pretty clear that Ex boyfriends kinda suck for the most part.. But for some reason I still find myself caring for him or trying to make him happy when In reality I want to punch him in the face for causing so much heart ache. How do I get over him? (Please nothing having to do with sleeping with other people or worse his friends).
