Had my first OB visit. The doctor said the midwife will be delivering my baby, but he will be on call if needed. Is this normal??

I feel like the doctor should ultimately be delivering when pushing and maybe the midwife be present during the build up?

Many people don't see anybody but a midwife, but usually they are certified nurse midwives. So they are trained and qualified to deliver babies

I’m in the US. My OBs offices doesn’t employ midwives. Whoever is on call will deliver if I go natural, or I can schedule a C with whoever I choose. I would have to go to a special office if I wanted a midwife.

Midwives deliver babies all the time. It’s what they do. OB is available if there’s intervention needed. If you don’t like that maybe go somewhere else?

I see a midwife primarily and an ob for anatomy scans and just in case something happens, It depends on the office. I like it this way I'm very close to my midwife

Most of the time if your not high risk a midwife will see you and deliver you but if you become high risk like get preeclampsia or something that puts you higher risk a doctor vehemently will have to take over the rest of your pregnancy very normal

My doctor has a mix of both midwives and doctors. I go through a rotation to meet everyone. Though, comically, a nurse delivered my first baby. The nurse was with me and helping me through the pushing process. She was then going to call the doctor when things progressed enough. Long story short, there ended up not being enough time and baby’s head was suddenly there. Apparently, I didn’t push as long as the average first time mother. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️ So the doctor didn’t have time to get to us.
