My daughter (1st child) didn’t speak much at all until like 2.5. But my son (16 mos younger than my daughter) is already saying more than she was at this age. Some kids speak early, some don’t. Sometimes a sibling helps, sometimes it doesn’t.

My daughter doesn’t talk that much but when we ask her to do something she will do it and knows where her body parts are she will sing along song like old McDonald or head shoulders knees and toes I was that parent that compare developmental stages from others I’m trying not to do that all kids develop differently some walked before they crawl I say about 2.5 if you don’t see any changes call the pediatrician

My sister has 4 kids and none of them really talked until they were around 2.5. Her 3yo daughter only recently started talking more after they put her in preschool. My 2yo son is verbal, but he doesn’t pronounce anything specifically. Most things are “dah” or “goo gah”, other than Mama, Dada, thank you, you’re welcome, more, and lots of different animal noises (woof, bak, grrrr, moo, meow, etc). He also says “Oma” and his favorite cousins name. I took him to a speech therapist one time, but haven’t returned because I decided I didn’t want to push anything or have any extra stress, especially knowing how late my sisters kids were. She said he definitely wasn’t autistic or anything else, so I’m fine with it. He’s a very active, helpful, happy little boy with a big, creative imagination and a very adventurous personality so I’m not stressing about it anymore. All kids are different.

My older brother didn’t start talking at all until he was about two and a half (fun fact, his first word wasn’t “mama” or “dada”— it was “Cinderella”). 
On the other hand, my husband was an extremely verbal child and had a vocabulary of over 100 words by the time he was a year old. 
Both are intelligent, successful men. Everyone’s different! My daughter takes after her daddy and is constantly talking. My niece still uses mainly sign language and grunts at 20mos. They both get their point across.

Speaking as a pediatric SLP: 50 words and starting to use 2 words together is the developmental expectation for 2 years. If you’re way off from there, I’d advise calling birth -3 services in your area. Some kids are late talkers, but some kids who aren’t talking go on to have a language disorder and the earlier they receive intervention, the better the outcomes.

Every baby is totally different.
My LO does not stop but my best friends little one same age is total opposite both girls..
Sometimes it's not because they can't, it can be a confidence thing. 
Keep playing, reading, talking and asking open ended questions. I sure he or she will be absolutely fine, but I understand why you would be concerned hun, it a mothers prerogative x

My son has a good 15-20 words he knows and says but sometimes he prefers to just be quiet and play by himself. My daughter was a late bloomer in every aspect so i believe he will too. Try not to worry.
