Does anyone else think the Kindergarten cutoff for NY is too late?

NY currently has the latest cutoff in the country with 12/1 and 12/31 in NYC. Most states are sometime in between September and October. I personally think it is way too late but would love to hear other opinions.

I heard there’s a new grade for kids with later Birthdays so they won’t be behind, so maybe they push it back so the 4 year olds who have late birthdays won’t be behind a year.

My daughter is an October baby and started Pre-K at 3. She’s just turned 6 in 1st grade and has absolutely no problems keeping up with the work academically or with her emotional maturity. No issues in Pre-K or K either. I have friends that have October and December kids in 1st grade now and they have all done very well and have been on pace or ahead of their older peers. If you feel like your child isn’t ready then you can always make that decision and either send them to private school or try to hold them back.
