STD testing

Planning on making an appointment at the health department for an std test. I don’t suspect anything, I’ve had very few partners but I have had unprotected sex in the past.

I go every year and get my pelvic exam and have never had anything come back with that. But I’m going to have a new partner soon and want to be sure everything checks out.

I’ve never had an std test before, what do they do? What do they test for? What should I expect?
