Just in case this happens to anyone else...
I got my routine blood work done in my first trimester and the results came back positive for Syphilis. I was in shock. I have been married over 10 years to a wonderful loving husband. He got tested a day after and his results were negative.
I was super worried because it's very dangerous for the health of the baby. The doctor is required to report all cases to the state. A health official from the state department contacted me and asked if I could come in to get more blood work done. He was suspicious of my diagnosis since my titer was 1:1. With an active Syphilis infection it's usually 1:8 - 1:1000 and up. My second test came back negative! If the health department hadn't re-tested me my doctor would have gone on treating me for an infection I never had. Apparently you can get false positives from being pregnant! Go figure.
I thought I should share my story since it was one of the worst 2 weeks of my life. If you are suspicious ask to be tested again!
