1 Hour Glucose Test

Rochelle

Backstory: when I was pregnant with my daughter 15 years ago they didn’t do test. When I was pregnant with my son 14 months ago they didn’t do test. My doctor just said have your bloodwork done before next appointment.

24 hours surrounding having bloodwork done: I had been dealing with a really bad ingrown big toenail all week. I had to go into a urgent care appointment to have toenail surgery. They used locals and removed my toenail. I lost a lot of blood. The doctor was quite nervous.. she says she’s never seen that before during procedure. She also admitted she’d never done one on a pregnant woman and maybe it was related. As you can imagine with the pain I didn’t eat much that day .. the next day.. didn’t eat breakfast.. in pain.. my mom came over to help with my 14mo old and made me eat.. we ordered in thai noodles and rice.. no protein.. but it’s my favorite and got me to eat lol .. with everything going on I forgot to have bloodwork done so we rushed down to have it done and I was told when I got there to chug drink and wait for hour. I had JUST eaten all that pasta and rice not even an hour before. I was so full I could barely fit drink .. made me almost get sick. This is less than 24 hours since procedure.

Test Results: My iron levels were in the tank and my glucose was high. It was at 166.

Today: my OB wrote me and was very concerned with my low iron levels and high glucose. I have never had gestational diabetes.. I don’t crave or eat sugar.. and she says a specialists will call me sometime this week to go over next steps.. I’m literally freaking out.. but I personally think the meal I had right before hand.. no protein.. the toenail surgery.. loss of blood.. botched all my tests.. could this be the case? I read you’re not supposed to eat anything but high protein day of test after the fact.. when I was looking into this foreign to me test..

Is 166 really that high of a number?

Is 7 really that low of a iron number?

Could all this have affected my tests? Should I ask to have them redone?
