Clomid 1st try

So my husband and I used clomid for the first this cycle. My period is 3 days late so I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. My husband looked at it because I couldn’t look at it. He just looked at it and shook his head no. But he was so sweet and started coming up with reasons why. I love him. I can’t say I was surprised or that I wasn’t disappointed. Well I started doing some research and I saw some women say that the first test they took was negative and then a week later was positive and it was due to ovulating late in your cycle. Could this be my problem? Please share some advice I’m desperate
